SIGMA-GEO offers innovative solutions in the field of searching for groundwater both for the technical needs of oil and gas companies and for the needs of the civil sector (fresh drinking water).

The relevance of research

  • The problem of water supply for civil needs is relevant throughout the world. Especially in regions where access to clean drinking water is limited due to the lack of near-surface sources or their unsuitability for domestic needs.
  • The exploitation of oil and gas fields is also accompanied by the need for fresh water for drilling needs, maintaining reservoir pressure, etc.

Solutions

3D model of the upper part of the section
according to sTEM data

To solve the problems of mapping aquifers, the most effective method is the use of the sTEM  method.
sTEM is used for a detailed study of the geological structure of the upper part of the section by differentiating its constituent rocks by geoelectric properties. The main parameter studied is electrical resistivity.
In most cases, aquifer reservoirs are characterized by low electrical resistivity relative to the host sediments.

Advantages of the sTEM method when searching for groundwater

  • The search object is characterized by high electrical conductivity, which is a favorable factor for the TEM method.
  • sTEM stations do not require galvanic grounding. For this reason, research can be carried out at any time of the year, including on frozen soils.
  • Possibility of determining section parameters using stations which size is less than the depth of the objects under study.

SIGMA-GEO experience for searching for groundwater

  • Our employees have more than 20 years of experience in this area.
  • More than 9 000 км2 explored throughout Russia.
  • More than 190,000 physical observations (29,000 linear km) of the sTEM have been completed.
  • Technologies for searching for aquifers based on the application of the sTEM method have been tested in various climatic, geographical and geological conditions, the effectiveness of predictions has been repeatedly confirmed by drilling.
